2025 Audition Form

PLEASE READ FIRST!

Dear musician,

Thank you for your interest in being a part of the Deseret Symphony Orchestra. We are so excited for our second year of this project and can guarantee wonderful experiences await everyone who participates in this group.

What does "Deseret" mean?

The word "Deseret" means "honeybee", and is a symbol of industry, hard work, and working together. Like a honeybee hive, we want this orchestra to be a group where we all work together to fulfill our mission of bringing light and love to the world around us through music. This orchestra may be a little bit different than others, in the sense that we want it to be somewhat democratic; although the director and/or presidency will be making most of the executive decisions, topics regarding what music to play, what gigs to take, what opportunities to focus on will be discussed together. We believe this will make people feel valued and heard, and in return will want to stay in the group for a long time.

What will we play?

This orchestra will mostly play secular music (including classical, film, video game music, and more), but we may often play LDS/Christian sacred music, and may also play for events and participate in recording projects that are "spiritual" or "religious" in nature. However, we welcome performers of all different kinds of faith (or the absence thereof) to play with us.

What skill level is required to play in this orchestra?

This is an advanced level group. As of right now, this group is unpaid. However, we are focusing now on how we can pay our players as often as possible. Although we hope we will be able to acquire the funds to pay performers in this orchestra, it is not to be expected at this time.
